Vanessa Park

Meet Vanessa and her writing experience!

Tell Us about your writing experience.

A life-long writer of fiction, I received my MFA from Columbia University. I have also

taught literature and writing and, since 2007, provided editing and writing services of all

kinds. I also have worked as a director of communications for non-profits and currently

provide marketing and communications services and consulting for both non- and for-

profit businesses. I’ve worked with over 700 clients and some of my jobs have included

editing Ph.D. dissertations and other academic publications and creating promotional

material, blogs, and articles for yogis, alarm system companies, marriage therapists,

financial advisors, podcasters, executive recruitment professionals, handwriting analysts,

shamans, life coaches, sex therapists, roofing contractors, and more. I’ve developed the

writing of numerous non-native speakers with knowledge to share and recently composed

20 20,000-word essays about Parisian cathedrals for a coffee-table book. In my line of

work, I learn a lot about a lot of things! Under my own name, I have written dozens of

articles about educational theory and child development, and had essays, articles, and

short stories published in educational and literary journals, web-based magazines, as well

as an anthology of essays.

Who is your favorite author and/or book?

If I had to choose one (which is torture), I'd guess I'd pick To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

What are your favorite topics to write about?

I love writing about things I'm passionate about, like mental health, cooking, education, pregnancy and childbirth, parenting, and women's issues. I love writing content for mission-driven businesses, whether non-profit or for-profit.

Tell me a fun fact about yourself.

I worked as a chef in a Charlottesville, VA, restaurant for several years prior to moving back to NYC for grad school.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I serve a non-profit board, write my own blog, dance-including going to as many Zumba classes as I can find, and travel whenever I can. If we can count having two engaging and lovely adult children as "something I do in my free time," then let's. My two kids are never far from my heart, though they are not particularly near me geographically.

What 3 emojis do you use regularly?

The poodle and duck are inside family jokes that I don't even know the origins of but are definitely used the most aside from the heart, which I use liberally with everyone.
